Hi Warren; Two important things for easy starting are the decompressor setting and the amount of fuel in the carb. If every thing else is good, spark plug, carburetor adjustment, valve adjustment, then with a carb full of gas and the decompressor set right, it should start right up.
Sitting for a few days may let the fuel level in the carb drop. The tank valve operates on vacumn and you would then need to crank it a lot to get the fuel up again. Try the primer position on the tank valve, this will let the fuel run into the carb by gravity. Once running, remember to switch back to run position. Just a thought you might try. Frank M
